Minister sets up school in 2 days for slum kids

Agra: Uttar Pradesh minister and Muzaffarnagar MLA Kapil Dev Agarwal ensured the setting up of a temporary school and the enrolment of about 40 children from a nomadic slum on Roorkee road within two days after finding out-of-school kids during a visit on Tuesday.Taking the issue urgently, Agarwal coordinated with officials from the education department and the district administration to start on-the-spot registrations, distribute books and other study material.On Thursday, the school was set up in the slum, with children receiving books, notebooks, uniforms, shoes and school bags. Authorities confirmed that financial assistance of Rs 1,200 would be credited to the parents’ accounts.Agarwal said the initiative was inspired by B R Ambedkar’s vision and aligned with the govt’s “School Chalo Abhiyan.” He also urged social organisations to step forward and contribute to the upliftment of such communities.The minister also directed officials to make proper arrangements for students to commute to school.BSA Kumar said, “Basic facilities have been provided so that children can begin studying immediately. So far, around 40 children have been registered and efforts are on to enrol more.”
